Shift change is the design constraint
A Tapukara auto-ancillary unit running two or three shifts empties and refills its gate within a few minutes, and any attendance or access system that cannot absorb that produces a queue outside the gate and a supervisor with a paper register. This is the single most common reason we are called to replace an existing system. The answer is rarely a higher-capacity terminal - it is multiple terminals at separate entry points, face recognition rather than fingerprint so hands do not have to be clean, and RFID vehicle tags so two-wheelers are not stopping at the barrier.
